Offender Health IT
The Offender Health IT (OHIT) programme was responsible for rolling out the first national clinical IT system to prisons in England (and to some immigration removal centres). NHS Wales also introduced the system to its prisons, resulting in a single clinical IT solution for the HMPS estate across England and Wales.
The system, TPP SystmOne Prison, is widely used by more than 7,000 healthcare staff across 133 institutions. It provides prison healthcare staff with instant, easy access to prisoners' medical records so that they can make more informed decisions and deliver safer, better quality care. It also provides a quick and secure way of sharing prisoners' health records between prisons as prisoners transfer, ensuring improved continuity of care.
Future Health and Justice Information Services
The current contract to provide a national clinical IT system for prisons comes to an end in 2016. Read about how the future information management needs of healthcare across both prisons and the wider criminal justice system are being developed.
